First Water Fight of the Year

It all started in the E-Block (Now known as Ayush), the place where all the devils of PGP1 reside. One can always see it coming. The day was special and so should be the night. It was Day-2 of the summer placement process for PGP1 and the Placom announcement in the Seminar Hall that night of the fact that all the people got placed and there won’t be any rolling process set it up. It was also followed by an announcement of a party by the Culcom (Sanskrit-I as they call it now) Secretary, but was it alone sufficient to divert the flow of excitement across the two batches??? Well, I doubt it, after all how many times do you really put in your efforts and how many times are you rewarded for your efforts and that too on such a grand scale.

The mail from Hostelcom at 11:30 p.m. inviting both the batches for a huge water fight said it all, no further impetus needed. It started almost immediately, the culprits being the E-Block residents and it quickly swept through in entirety across every hostel blocks, the connecting or common points became the battleground. One such battlefield was the Mess-Melting Pot corridor where what started as the battle between the two batched ended up in the survival of the fittest, where individuals scurried in armed with buckets and mugs and jugs. Then started the dragging round which started with the dragging of SWAC members through the watery mess in front of the Mess showered alternately with hot water from the geysers and cold water from the water coolers, with SWAC-C being the last member of SWAC to be dragged. By that time the empty water coolers forced to treat the general public too with similar vigour.

By this time, the water fight was in full swing in the other blocks too, not to mention the “cross” (The junction between A-block (Sanskar) boys’ and girls’ hostels at the common staircase).

The party lasted for around one and a half hour and was followed by a Culcom which as usual simply rocked with even the Placom members in an excited state. It’s a different thing that all this fun reflected in the attendance and participation in the class the very next day, but that is another story and a pretty routine one too…

The First Sunshine

I knew this party had to be special, it was the first one on a weekday(or weeknight if I may call it) followed by for the first time two holidays!!! and then we had for the first time among us, the foreign exchange students. The official timing was 11:00p.m., so it was quite obvious and natural for the party to start after midnight. It started with a presentation by the french guys(people). The highlight of the presentation was the girl in bikini at the beach, who led to a huge uproar by the otherwise frustrated audience, the girl was later introduced as the sister of the presenter! The presentation ended with a sattire with them showing cows in India and Cows in France and the punchline, "We also like cows, but we have fenced grounds for them and footpaths are only for pedestrians". A small intro from the chinese students(participants) ended the introduction part and the party commenced. As per the norms of the party, booze stall was crowded in no time, while the more civilized people restricted themselves to soft drinks (and ofcourse the most civilized one kept themselves to their rooms) :D, people came to the dance floor and the party was in its full flow.
It was heartening to see the differences in civilizations and culure melt in the "melting pot" as the french fraternity and the chinese gang mingled with us and as hooda desperately searched for a pen to note down a chinese girl's phone number and as The Little One made constant efforts to match the steps of the french guys.
By that time I had already declined another offer for a drink by Adam, but was caught after some time by Mr.T holding The Little One's drink which I would have drank had my nose betrayed me, the contents of the drink confirmed later by Mr. T and Ms. Singh herself. Then had to deal with deepak and pratty who gave me an impression they were drunk though the claim was later turned down by the duo. By that time the party was very much settled and I decided to go for a drive and took harry with me, for the first time I broke the 60k barrier within the campus as we covered all the major roads in the campus. After coming back, had my coke checked by Ms. Abrahim for any booze content, such expectations from a decent and gullible tee-totaller like me!!! By 4, I left the party, watched Eyes Wide Shut in my room and went back to see the party winding by the first rays of sun...

IIM Indore

Having survived for two months at this place called IIM Indore compels me to go back in past to the day when the CAT results were out. Having underperformed on the judgement day prepared me for what was coming, but human being is an optimistic creature and so am I! (sometimes only though). IIM C was the first one to send GD/PI calls, a night earlier than the other IIMs. Being a
nocturnal and idle
creature, I was amongst the first one in my friend circle to check the results and get
disappointed - Strike 1. Morning went to college, received a call from my centre director for my roll number. I told him of my rejection and he told me of the selection of one of my better friends, Venil Shah, who refused to believe me when I called him. Within a few hours got 4 more blows as IIM L, A, B and K declared their lists, venil and richa had by that time C,L and K while madhuri and akash had B, C, L and K. Not being a spoil sport, I joined in the celebrations of my friends where I could
see some faces sorry for me while a few others beaming at my till then failure. I went home and
checked the results myself for the optimistic reasons mentioned above. Again, the same
disappointment, while the IIM I site refused to open and I didn't persue the matter further as I
was by then back to my normal(non-optimist) self. Around 8 p.m., my centre director, T. Rammohan called me again," Piyush, compensation
hai, IIM I aa gaya." I couldn't believe my luck and in a matter of few days had call from FMS as well( I already had IIFT). Then the usual churning for GD/PI started and we had a real good time at
lonavla for PT sureshot batch. Gradually, my interviews were over and again the same story,
IIM I being the last in sending their final calls, again Ram Sir calling me to break the good news and then finally I was
relieved. In a few days, another good news followed, final call from FMS, but by then I had made
my mind to join Planet I.
